WINTER BOOK COVER

'Winter' is part of a personal project taking inspiration from the seasons to create four imagined book cover designs over the course of 2022. Winter is the first in the series.

Winter, the darkest season, the time for rest and hibernation, grey skies and skeletal trees, muted sounds and stillness.

But in those months of darkness there is a slow, quiet preparation taking place all around. Dried seed heads, whilst seemingly dead do infact contain within them seeds with all the possibility for the year ahead. Birds gathering. migrating, getting ready to meet their mates and begin nesting again. And the trees which have long since lost their leaves may look to the world like they are sleeping, but there is much preparation going on underground, where there roots are busy and active, storing energy for those first leaves and blossom come the Spring.

And for us, a time of quiet recuperation, to reflect and restore before we start to sow the seeds for the next season.

SUMMER BOOK COVER

'Summer' is part of a personal project taking inspiration from the seasons to create four imagined book cover designs over the course of 2022. Summer is the second in the series.

Summer, long, golden, hazy days stretch put before us. This is what we wait the whole year for. Those lazy days to lie on the baked earth, to languor and idle. To close your eyes, and let the sun wash over every part of you, and through dappled lush green leaves, bake your skin bronze.

The dried grasses rattle in the gentle breeze, everything is still, too hot to move, apart from the rhythmic crickets and swallows who summersault and play on the hot air.

The living is easy, but only for a minute, for soon those swallows will be gathering up, preparing and on the move again. And so too will we be onto the next, so best make the most.
